Next Tournament - Summer Open 2010

So the next tournament date is set for Sunday August 15th, IAKSA Summer Open Championships.  We'll be running exactly the same categories as last time with the addition of Forms.  The forms will be made up of four categories which will be under 16's open hand, adults open hand, under 16's weapons and adults weapons.

There's already a great deal of interest in the forms divisions and a few judges appointed.  Any club entering the forms divisions will be asked to (at least try!!) to provide a judge for the panel.

The addition of forms will in no way interfere with the smooth running of the event and the Semi & Light Contact will run as usual!

Thanks

Jay

Refs Course & Tournaments

We held the Refs and Officials course on Sunday March 28th was a great course and helped us develop a great team of officials.

Big thank you to all that attended, you will be receiving your IAKSA England/UK & ASKO officials certificate soon and will be working the mats towards further qualification.

Feedback has been very positive, with many impressed with our approach to light contact continuous.  Which is simply ‘it is what it says it is!’  I’ll be releasing a statement with regards to our Light Contact Continuous categories over the coming weeks to make sure everyone knows what is and isn’t acceptable in these divisions.  The bottom line is simple, if you can’t do light, then don’t enter!

Anyone that wants to talk to me about our tournaments or matches on the fight shows can give me a call on 07974 027162

Veterans Clarification

We need some clarification of our veterans category to help avoid any confusion.  The category quite clearly says fighters over 36 years of age which should be clear enough.  The minimum age of a competitor in this section will be 37.  However just being 37 or more doesn’t really mean you should be fighting in the veterans division.

The confusion arises from the fact that many tournaments allow fighters to compete in their normal rank section and veterans section on the same day.  We won’t be allowing this.

Our position is clear.  If a competitor is capable of competing in their normal weight and rank division then they should.  The veterans section for all those that cannot.  It’s there for the late starters to the sport, those that can’t realistically compete with the younger competitors.  It’s there for the ‘old war horses’ that have done their years in their respective divisions but can no longer place.

I personally cannot see the point in a forty something that can hold their own in their normal division competing in the veterans, which they can often quite easily win, on the same day.

I hope that’s clear for everyone, any questions on this or anything else regarding our tournaments please give me a call on 07974 027162

Thanks

International Amateur Kickboxing Sport Association (England/UK)

Some major changes here to our events, they’ve been on the cards a while but things have now been finalised!

As I am now the President for International Amateur Kickboxing Sport Association (IAKSA) over here (England/UK) the two tournaments will now be the IAKSA & ASKO English Open (May) and British Open (November) Championships!  Both tournaments will have categories for kids and adults in semi contact points and light contact continuous.  The winners will be the official IAKSA and ASKO English and/or British Champion for 2010.

The dates are set for both comps, and more details will be on the relevant pages on here soon.

Our Pro-Am events will now be sanctioned IAKSA and ASKO and will eventually offer Area and National Titles in all divisions of semi, light and full contact on our Pro-Am Martial Sports shows.

On the subject of the Pro-Am Martial Sports shows now is a great time to get fighters details in, with their placing (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in open tournaments and match fights etc.  From this a position in the Pro-Am rankings will be calculated.  Once they are compiled the only way to get in the rankings will be to fight on the shows, so don’t hesitate to get the details in!

Anyone wanting more info on getting involved with the IAKSA/ASKO in the UK or just to compete in our events then please contact us.

Thanks

Jason

The first referess course is lined up for Sunday March 21st...... see the ref and officials link on main page for more details.  The first course will focus on semi contact points and other official duties.
